Black History Month at the Altadena Libraries

Looking Back: National Book Award Winner Jeffrey C. Stewart & Local Historian Michele Zack Discuss Black History in Altadena

Altadena Heritage and the Altadena Libraries were thrilled to present a discussion with author and 2018 National Book Award winner Jeffrey C. Stewart, facilitated by local historian Michele Zack, to a packed Community Room on Saturday, February 9. Highlighting the contributions of Altadenans like Charles White and Octavia Butler through the lens of Alain Locke’s philosophical ideas, Stewart and Zack explored how Altadena has acted as a crucible of culture throughout its history, especially for its African American residents.
