1000 Books Before Kindergarten and Other Online Reading Challenges

Our Youth and Family Services department has a variety of programs, services, and materials for the entire family to enjoy. Our library staff is happy to greet you and provide reference services at the Main Library Children’s Desk and the Bob Lucas Memorial Library.

Materials

Our children’s collection includes materials in English, Spanish, and French for children through the eighth grade, along with materials for parents and caregivers. We also have special collections in our Library of Things, such as Read with Me Kits and Early Literacy Kits. We invite you to discover our collection through our catalog.

Events/Programs

Our library provides free programs and events for children and families, including storytimes, workshops, performers, and more. For a list of current events, please view our events calendar.

Computers

Visit the Children’s Room to use a computer for free with your library card! We also have laptops and hotspots that can be checked out by adults, and we offer free WiFi at both libraries and in our parking lots.

You can use the AWE Learning computers in our Main Library Children’s Room to play a variety of learning games without a library card.

To learn more about using our computers and printing, go to www.altadenalibrary.org/computers.

Online Materials

We offer many age-appropriate online homework & research tools to help children, like Brainfuse and National Geographic Kids, as well as as online reading challenges  — such as 1000 Books Before Kindergarten — through Beanstack.

Welcome to our Children’s Department!
