Homebound Delivery Service
The Altadena Libraries are happy to announce the launch of our Homebound Delivery Service program, where we deliver library materials to the homes of eligible Altadena residents.
Homebound Delivery Service is available only to Altadena residents (zip code 91001) who are unable to visit the library according the following criteria. You are eligible to receive Homebound Delivery Service if:
You have a condition (illness, injury, etc.) that restricts your ability to leave your place of residence, except with the aid of a supportive device, such as crutches, canes, wheelchairs, and walkers, the use of special transportation, the assistance of another person, or if leaving home is medically discouraged. In most circumstances, if you drive, you would not be considered eligible.
We do not provide this service to assisted living facilities.
To request our Homebound Delivery Service, please fill out the form below or call us at 626-798-8338 ext. 122 for assistance. Once you have completed the form, a staff member will call you back within seven (7) days to confirm details and set up delivery. You can request the service for a friend or family member.
About the Program
If you participate in the Homebound Delivery Service program, you agree to allow the library to maintain a Reading History Log of the materials delivered to you. This log will be used internally only (and never publicly) for the sole purpose of ensuring that we don’t deliver duplicate materials to you. Staff will drop off materials at the door; they will not enter the home.
Material delivery and pickup will be made on Wednesday morning, only to the address on file. Materials will be dropped off in a weatherproof, labeled tote bag.
Homebound Delivery Service Materials
Materials that may be borrowed include books, magazines, audiobooks, laptops, and hotspots, CDs, and DVDs.
Materials will be checked out for a maximum of three (3) weeks. To return items early, call for a pickup.
There is a limit of 10 items per delivery (and if you use this service, you may only have 10 items checked out at any time).
You may select your own materials by placing them on hold through our catalog. Otherwise, the library staff will select materials based on your preferences provided in the request form.
We reserve the right to assess fines/discontinue service if borrowed items are damaged/not returned in the same condition as they were delivered. Payments for lost or damaged materials must be made over the phone with a credit card prior to the next scheduled delivery. Staff members will not accept payment for fines at the time of delivery.
Conditions of Delivery
To participate in the Homebound Delivery Service, you agree to provide a safe and appropriate environment for our staff members to make deliveries to your home and that you protect all library materials in your possession. Staff members may recommend suspension of the service if any of the following conditions exist during library delivery:
Pets are not confined (apart from trained service animals).
Path to the home is unsafe.
Any person in the home presents threatening behavior.
Any person in the home uses abusive or obscene language, makes obscene gestures, or displays obscene images.
Any person in the home harasses library staff.
Any person in the home exhibits signs of illness that may jeopardize the health of the library staff, and the library has not been notified of the illness.
Any person engaging in any illegal activity in the home at the time of delivery.
Any library material currently in the possession of the homebound patron appears to be willfully defaced, mutilated, or damaged while in the care of the homebound person.
