Little Free Libraries
What are Little Free Libraries?
Little Free Libraries are small, community-based book exchanges where individuals can take a book or leave a book, promoting literacy and a sense of connection. These mini-libraries are typically housed in a weatherproof box, and are often maintained by volunteers, local residents, or organizations. At the Altadena Library District, we actively support Little Free Libraries by donating books, organizing book drives, and assisting with their installation and upkeep. We also help spread the word and engage local residents in maintaining and replenishing the book stock. Through these efforts, we play a hands-on role in encouraging reading and creating vibrant, book-sharing spaces in our neighborhoods.
