2024 Board of Trustees Vacancy

The Altadena Library Board of Trustees announces a vacancy and will make an appointment to fill that seat.

The Board of Trustees is accepting applications from anyone who would like to serve on the board for the two-year term starting in December 16, 2024. Applicants must be at least 18, a resident of Altadena and registered to vote in Altadena. The chosen candidate will be sworn in at the Special Board meeting on Friday, January 10, 2025.

The board meets at 5:00pm on the fourth Monday of each month; this unpaid, volunteer position involves budgetary and policy oversight as well as high-level strategic decision-making for the Altadena Library District. Interested parties should submit:

  • Letter of intent

  • Resume

  • Certification of Qualifications Form

These documents must be received by 5:00pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. The board will interview potential candidates at a Regular Board Meeting to be held on Monday, December 16, 2024. Each candidate will be given 3 minutes to make a statement and will then be asked to answer 3 questions, which will be provided to candidates in advance of the meeting.

Nomination Process:

  1. Open application process, deadline at 5:00pm on December 11, 2024. Materials published in the December 16, 2024 Regular Board Meeting agenda package.

  2. Trustee appointment will be a primary Action Item at the December 16, 2024 Regular Board Meeting

  3. All applicants are invited to attend the meeting and during this part of the agenda they will:

    1. Be given 3 minutes to speak about themselves and otherwise use the time as it relates to their interest in the Trustee appointment;

    2. Be asked 3 questions by the Board (all applicants will be asked the same questions);

      (Names will be drawn from a hat to randomly determine the order of the applicants).

  4. A motion will be made to proceed to a roll call vote on appointment; after receiving a second, the President will open up the floor for discussion and debate.

  5. Roll call vote taken.

    1. One applicant must receive a majority vote (3 out of 4) to be selected;

    2. If one applicant does not get 3 votes, the floor will again open up for discussion from the Board;

    3. Repeat this step until one candidate receives at least 3 of the 4 votes.

  6. New Trustee is appointed to the Board.
